[Don’t bother clicking, that’s not a live video. I’ll explain in a second.]
I’ve been reading about food and nutrition for several years. In that time I’ve gotten pretty good at telling the difference between people who understand what they’re talking about and those who are just repeating stuff they’ve memorized.
Recently I was talking to someone about diabetes and a part of me listened to what I was saying and thought, “Hmm … that sounds a little too much like repeating stuff and not enough like understanding.” So I needed to learn a bit more.
It pays to have friends in strange places
It just so happens I’ve written a couple of guest posts for Johnny B. Truant, whose blog is generally about online marketing but with a recent trend toward personal development. Included in “personal development” are several 30-day experiments he’s done on himself.
The first of these was to go on the slow carb diet popularized by Tim Ferris in The 4-Hour Body. Kind of a bold move for someone with type 1 diabetes, considering the American Diabetes Association still recommends getting about 40% – 60% of your calories from carbs.
Less surprising if you know Johnny is such a Ferris fanboy he’d take ice baths if Ferris said it would help you lose weight or sleep better. (Oh wait, Ferris did say that.)
So I asked Johnny if he’d be willing to talk to me about his experiment. We spent a half-hour talking about diabetes, metabolism, diet, and teaching our kids good habits by example.
I said I’d explain about the video, didn’t I?
I’ve got the video posted for members for now. I expect to get a bunch of questions and requests for references and I want to make sure members get first shot at my time.
I plan to research any questions and give good answers, not just parrot back the first thing that comes to mind. That’s going to take some time.
Coming soon will be a downloadable MP3 of the interview and, if there’s enough interest, a full transcript. In the meantime I’m going to be pulling some of the best quotes to share with everyone.
If you can’t wait, you can sign up now and view the whole interview.
